December 15, 2011 – Christmas Party Kapiolani Community College (old Ft. Ruger/Kaimuki).
                                         Louis Paresa Chairman

We had 33 people in attendance, and they were: Damien Farias & Nancy Yoshioka, George & Dori Corenevsky, Johnson & Elaine Yee, Stanley & Doris Osada, George & Maggie Joy, Allen & Betty Perkins, Fred & Fran Hackbarth, George & Kathleen Rego, Harold & Gladys Chun, Donald & Marjorie Young, Norman & Marie Cruz, Gordon & Betty Sam, Louis & Barbara Paresa, Cenric & Linda Ho, Michael & Ellie Lyons, and Michael & Evelyn Chun (guests of the Paresas), and Blanche Kort (guest of the Classmates).

M.C. was me (Louie Paresa). All guests were on site by 6:30pm and dinner was served. Food was plentiful, absolutely ono, and the room we were in was perfect for our needs. KCC provided a podium with microphone which made my job easier. We had a boom box that had 4 hours of Christmas background music which complimented the gathering. I opened the program with a few comments about our class and the initial prayer was offered by Gordon Sam. Thanks a lot Gordon for your participation and support. After dinner a lucky name drawing resulted in eleven prizes won by classmates and/or their “significant others”. Thanks to George C. and Loui P. for their donations. Damien was asked to say a few words concerning our ‘55 class organization which he did and we said a prayer for those classmates who have died and those classmates who are ill. All present voiced an opinion that more classmate participants would make this a greater success. A truly good time was enjoyed and as usual we told a few jokes, some good and some not as good; but regardless, we had some participation which makes for a better gathering. George C. had a santa claus shirt on and asked (more than once) all the wahine there if they wanted to sit on santa's lap; however there were no takers. Needless to say, santa was a bit sad. Barbara Paresa brought bread pudding and Betty Perkins brought chocolate chip cookies, for each person which was graciously accepted by all. We had Michael Chun (SLC class of ‘61) and his wife Evelyn as guests and they said several times the gathering was fun, and enjoyed everyone's company. Mike is a CPA and Damien and Loui avail themselves of his services for taxes etc. Best joke of the night, punch line "abscess makes the fart go honda". If you want to hear the rest of it please come to our next gathering so it will make sense. Blanche Kort got up and thanked the classmates for inviting her to the party, and expressed that she thought her husband Alvin’s spirit (classmate that recently died), was there in the room celebrating with everyone.

Additional thanks to Barbara Paresa for her part in being the overall coordinator of the party setup, musical treats and song sheets, lucky number/name drawing, and for “busting her butt” trying to make the Christmas Party a success. Also, many, many thanks to our super pictorial recorder (picture taker) Johnson Yee.

Merry Christmas. Remember; JESUS is the reason for the season. Give praise to GOD!!!

Treasurer’s (Rego) report: The fund has grown by$25 compliments of three golfers. The bank account has grown by $595.00 due to classmate checks being paid for our Christmas party. But all of this will be withdrawn to pay MCC, for the cost of our party. Our checking should show after payment a balance of an amount equal to the balance reported at our September 15th meeting.

Louie Paresa reported on the upcoming class Christmas party. Seventeen people have paid so far and we hope to have 30-40 eventually to attend.

The first meeting in 2012 will be on January 19, 2012 at 6:30PM

Meeting adjourned by Farias at 7:24 PM - followed by socializing over refreshments.

November 6, 2011 - BACK TO CAMPUS

The 10 am Mass in the Mystical Rose Oratory was celebrated by Marianist Father Robert Bouffier. Harold Chun read the first epistle and Gordon Sam read the second. Melvin Pang, Fred Hackbarth, and Ed Lelling took the hosts, wine, and monetary donations to the altar. Ed Lelling read the intentions and requested prayers for Rodney Botelho and Tom Kutz. After Communion, George Corenevsky and Cenric Ho read the names of our departed classmates. Gordon Sam then led the singing of the SLC Alma Mater.

After Mass, Saint Louis alumni activities coordinator Russell Valente (class of '79) gave us a tour of the Clarence T. C. Ching Learning and Technology Center, for which we donated about $80,000. Besides showing us the latest teaching facility on campus and explaining many changes already implemented and some to come, Russ answered the questions we had about the school and the direction it would take.

After the tour, we had a $10 lunch in the Presidential Suite overlooking the Mamiya Theater patio and Bertram Hall. Our caterer, Melody Carbajal, served make-your-own sandwiches of seeded sourdough, wheat, 7-grain, and white bread with seasoned roast beef, roast turkey breast, Black Forest ham, medium cheddar, alpine lace swiss, and munster cheese, tomatoes and Manoa lettuce, mayo, mustard, and spicy mustard. She set out kettle chips, barbecue and regular. Her homemade pasta salad and fruit salad of fresh Maui Gold pineapple, watermelon, and grapes rounded out the meal. We enjoyed shortbread cookies and macaroons dipped in chocolate for dessert. A beverage table held coffee, hot tea, Hawaiian Iced Tea, and ice water. Mel decorated the serving tables with green table cloths, ti leaves, and orchids.

Sixteen classmates and eight guests attended:
1 Hottendorf, Claude Kyong Gehrig
2 Sam, Gordon
3 Ho, Cenric
4 Corenevsky, George Dori
5 Joy, George
6 Hackbarth, Fred Fran
7 Lyons, Michael
8 Ah Moo, Earl Arlene
9 Osada, Stanley
10 Lelling, Edward Kenneth Lelling
11 Cruz, Norman Marie
12 Young, Donald
13 Chun, Harold
14 Lee, Alson
15 Pang, Melvin Marie
16 Yee, Johnson Elaine

Please open the attachment to see some of the pictures taken by Johnson Yee.

Sylvia Nakakura wanted to be with us, especially for the Memorial Mass, but her two young granddaughters were playing the piano at a benefit recital Sunday. Sylvia did make a donation to the Mystical Rose Oratory.

I thank everyone who contributed to our Back to Campus event. Some volunteers have already been named. In addition, I thank Chaminade campus minister Kay Stone, who coordinated the Sunday Mass, Soane Uiagalelei and his choir, and the many others who joined us in the memorial Mass. Russ Valente had some help from the Saint Louis personnel, but still spent many hours to make the day a success. Thank you everyone for your wonderful participation. Great singing--loud and clear. Thank you to those who had a second helping at the luncheon; without you, my brother Kenneth and I would still be eating sandwiches.

Above all, I thank my mentor and our hard-working classmate, George Corenevsky. Throughout this long process, he was always there for me--and for us. Thank you George--and as you have so often written, God bless, and....be safe!

February 17, 2011 - Hawaii Kai Golf Course

There were 12 crusaders at Hawaii Kai. Venue was three 4 man teams, scramble format, 2 putt maximum, no minimum drive, and the par 3's were played if you did not get on the green on your fist shot, then a second shot was allowed. For those who liked the format it was Loui idea and for those who did not care for that format then blame Stan Osada. Although I love Stan like a brother, when it comes to taking the heat I'll sell him out in a heartbeat. Teams were Gerritt Young, Harold Chun, Gordon Sam, & Bernard Freitas team 1. Team 2 consisted of Sonny Lam, George Joy, Norman Cruz, & Lionel Camara. Team three had Stan Osada (captain so this is why he took the heat for the par 3's), Damien Farias, Ray Loo, and Loui. As usual Stan's team won the bragging rights for the day as collectively they were 3 under par. Team 2 was next as they were either one over or one under however the point is moot. Team 1 was tail end Charlie because as Gerritt said if it wasn't for bad luck they would have none. Many putts lipped out or downright bounced out. Too bad we weren't playing horseshoes as slose counts but not in golf.

Gerritt being the thinking pa-ke had 4 of his golfing buddies play with us to insure we could avail ourselves of the $44 fee, vice $50. Thanks Gerritt for your frugal thinking. From one pa-ke to another, MAHALO. Collectively that was $96 saved.

Lunch followed at Lung Fung where we indulged in a 5 course luncheon which was good but a bit sparse I thought. It was adequete but a bit more food would have been appreciated. Along with some wine for Bernard and a bunch of Coors light for the ones who chose to indulge in an adult beverage, it was a good fun and peaceful golf outing. Thanks to Damien who put in a hundred dollars towards the food and the balance was paid by the fees assessed earlier in the morning when Loui collected the par 3 money. Which brings us to the winners of the par 3's were Gordon, Harold, Ray, and last but not least Loui. This friggen Loui always seems to win something. We should start a senate investigating committee because he is too lucky. Something isn't quite kosher.

Next golf outing will be chaired by Harold Chun and it will be held at Hickam. If the group wants to go to the control tower again for lunch please let me know and I will need names and the last 4 digits of your social security number for submission to the FAA guards. If another tour is wanted, please let me know and I will see if I can get one. More than likely its possible but depending on what is happening at the moment will determine if a tour may be conducted. Tour is optional and if you rather eat then run, that is fine with me. Harold will send out the particulars but tentatively it will be on Apr 21. Harold will advise.

Team 3 was a perfect blend of abilities. Ray and Stan were hot off the tees, Damien was hot with his irons, and Loui was just hot, you know like in perspiring!!!!! So lets do it again guys!!!!!

a short story from Loui...........
2 man scramble Jimmy and Norman are partners, Loui & Ray are partners. Its conceded by all that Jimmy is the best golfer playing at our event. Jimmy takes about 4 to 5 seconds to hit his drive once he gets on the tee. One or two butt wiggles and then he swings, and its always wayyyy down the fairway in the short grass. Well hole number 5 Loui hits a magnificent drive dead center in the short grass, way out there. As we approach our drives, Ray tells me the first ball we see is Jimmy's. I said no that has to be mine because Jimmy always hits it farther than me. We check and its NOT my ball. Ray says there is no other ball in sight except mine which as stated earlier was way out there. Sooo I immediately go into my soliloquy about "be it known to all present, please note on this day June 18, 2010 in the year of the Lord at 11am Hawaiian standard time, Loui Paresa outdrove Jimmy Burns etc. etc. etc." Well Jimmy being a nice fellow quietly interrupts my soliloquy and says, "Loui that is not my ball". I immediately feign mental regardless then ask, where the hell is your ball? As always its about 50 yards past mine so I now have to eat crow. BUT it wasn't my entire fault as I now believe Jimmy put Ray up to telling me the ball in question was Jimmy's. Is conspiracy a correct word? In spite of eating the entire crow it was truly enjoyable golf outing.

Grand Day had by all.
Food and drinks hosted by Wallace Ching
As a result of some generous winners $102 was donated to the Class Fund.

April 15, 2010 - Hawaii Kai Golf Course 10:00AM

A great time was had by all 12 participants. Classmates playing were Norman Cruz, Earl Ah Moo, Gordon Sam, Jimmy Burns, Stanley Osada, Damien Farias, Louis Paresa, & George Joy. The others were Shawn Lorenzo (Paresa's son in law), Ian Lorenzo (Shawn's younger brother), Bert Maekawa & Gary Sanada ( both co-workers of Paresa during his FAA days).

Winning team was Loui, Damien, Gordon & Jimmy (3 under).

Second place was Earl, George, Stanley & Norman (2 under).

Third place were the guests Shawn, Ian, Gary & Bert (1 under).

Par three's were won by Ian, Damien & Loui. There was a remaining par 3, but it was not won by anyone.

Thanks very much to Damien for all the food, as he provided three vouchers for green fees, and we used that money to pay for all the food and drinks after playing. Damien also, out his own pocket provided, the tip ($25) for the waitress who just happened to be his niece.

An added anomaly is that Loui has been on the winning team for the past 4 or 5 golf outings. This is direct testimony to his ability, skill, and knowledge
on how to pick team mates. Loui can talk the talk but walking the walk is another story. Perhaps Loui's ability is that he is able to bring the best out of his team mates.

It was enjoyable to "talk story" with our classmates and talk some trash as well as enhancing the male bonding we all need at this stage in our lives. We are truly blessed to have such a great bunch of guys from such diverse backgrounds. Many of us never realized we were poor growing up, made a success of our professional lives, but never changed our relationships with each other. I (Loui) am proud to be a member of this great group. My one wish is that we get more participants in future golfing events.

Malama Pono.

March 20, 2009 - Fine Dinner at John Dominins

We gathered at the bar in anticipation of a wonderful evening. First, just a few, then many. Laughter, joking, happiness were all commodities that were shared without condition. Then, our “room” became available, and off we went to partake in an evening of nostalgia and fun.

The table settings were nice, and the view out the picture windows was fantastic. There were large waves coming in to the harbor, and small sailing vessels ventured out to sea to lessen possible damage to their craft. It was “high tide” and the movement of the surf was mesmerizing. A classmate and his wife chose a table and their seats; then quickly, so did many others. Drinks were ordered – greetings were many and so very friendly – and collectively all were seated. So began our last Fine Dinner at the John Dominis Restaurant which will close forever in April of 2010.

Attending were: George & Maggie Joy - Norman & Marie Cruz - George & Dori Corenevsky
Louis & Barbara Paresa - Stanley & Doris Osada - Allen & Betty Perkins
Michael & Ellie Lyons - Jim & Emme Burns - Johnson & Elaine Yee
George & Kathleen Rego - Gordon & Betty Sam - Fred & Fran Hackbarth
Damien Farias & Nancy Yoshioka - Joe Ornellas & Stephanie Bellefeuille

“Escargot”, “Poke”, “Sashimi”, “Steamed Clams”, “Shrimp Lumpia”, were some of the pupus ordered and consumed with pizazz (and hunger). “Talk Story” was the main conversation point. The ladies in their very nice evening wear (as usual) outshone the men; except for one of the classmates. Johnson Yee arrived in a long sleeved and very colorful shirt, and was greeted by many - “whoa, da nice da shirt” comments. Johnson, as is his style, went around and greeted everyone and started doing his “thing” - taking pictures of all who were present. Then, he took pictures of the pupus and of the main dishes. There is a link below, that will take you (those of you that have a computer) to share in Johnson's pictures.

Again, as is the “norm” for us, dinner orders were varied and diverse. Green Peppered Rack of Lamb, Seafood Bouillabaisse, Angus Steak, Lobster, Mahi-Mahi En Papillote (in parchment paper), Seafood Platter, Surf-N-Turf, Shrimp Tempura. For some of us, waiting for the main dishes, was making us hungry, and so we devoured many, many of the fresh hot rolls available to us. We even asked for “extra rolls”. While this is going on, more “refreshments” were being ordered and consumed. Guess that got some of us into a festive and “chance um” mood.

Damien Farias was our M. C. for the evening and by his example, and by his “coaxing”, a whole bunch of us got up and told jokes. George Joy, Louie Paresa, Johnson Yee, George Rego, & Damien, told jokes which brought tons of laughter and even more conversation(s). When you can, ask George Joy about the Jewish Chinese Restaurant. Or ask Johnson Yee about how his relatives were directly responsible for the naming of the area called Waikiki. If you'd rather laugh till you snort and gasp for air, ask Louie Paresa about his telling of the Chili Judge story. He almost couldn't finish his one man skit, and often laughed so much that he actually cried (and wiped his nose a bunch). It was a wonderful, wonderful evening.

Damien thanked all for taking part in the evening, and told everyone of his pride in our class and classmates; and that he wished we could continue our camaraderie for a long time. And then we said our “Alohas”, and went our separate ways. Thank you God, for letting us all enjoy this part of our lives!

October 3, 2009 - Nice Dinner John Dominis PHOTOS!!!!

“FINE DINNER” @
JOHN DOMINIS RESTAURANT
OF OCTOBER 3, 2009

It all started out with the weather being perfect, and the site was just great! We were provided a “private room” at the restaurant, and it was beautifully laid out. The view out of the semi-panoramic windows, was spectacular.

The classmates and their guests started arriving at around 5:15 P.M., and everyone had arrived by 6:00 P.M. After ordering drinks, the “talk story time” started. Seating was “random” and it all seemed to work out perfectly.

Each lady that was present, was provided (compliments of the classmates) with a bouquet of two red roses and one white rose, carefully bordered by fern leaves and a yellow ribbon. The ladies were very happy with the gift.

The list of attendees: Joseph Ornellas & Stephanie - George & Dori Corenevsky
Alvin Kort - Bernard & Deborah Freitas
Lionel & Elizabeth Camara - Louis & Barbara Paresa
Johnson & Elaine Yee - Norman & Marie Cruz
Michael & Ellie Lyons - Claude Hottendorf & Kyong
Allen & Betty Perkins - Frederick & Fran Hackbarth & Fran's sister Marilyn

Then – everyone ordered from the menu, and appetizers and dinners and desserts started to be prepared by the restaurant's chefs. Check this out: Appetizers = Shrimp Lumpia, Oysters Rockefeller, Escargots, Ahi Poke,
Steamed Clams, Shiitake Mushroom & Scallop Soup
Caesar Salad

Entrees = Steak & Lobster, Rack of Lamb, John Dominis Salad
Fresh Island Prawns, Steamed fresh Island Moi (fish,) Shrimp w/veggies
Roasted Island Chicken, Abalone (real) w/white wine & capers

Desserts = Mud Pie, Mixed Fruit Sorbet, Macadamia Nut Pie
Hot Brownies w/Bananas & ice cream, Crème Brulee

You all know that there are not enough words or platitudes that can be rained on Johnson Yee for his thoughtful and caring efforts to “picture” each and every event that we have. But he is truly a remarkable and giving person to do the things he continues to do for all of us. Many thanks Johnson!

After the wonderful food and a continuing progression of cocktails, the “talk story” continued. There were a couple of announcements relating to the upcoming Christmas Party in December; and then “jokes & remembering” flowed.

Congratulations & Thanks to Joe Ornellas for planning & shepherding this wonderful “Fine Dinner”!

Auwe, the evening had flown by and it had left everyone in a warm and jovial mood; it was then that we all said our “Alohas” for the evening. Everyone left saying that it was a really wonderful evening and that we should continue to have these great “Fine Dinners”.

BTW, click here to view Johnson Yee's picture montage of the evening.
There are about 50 or so pictures to be seen.

July 23, 2009 - Nice Dinner at Buzz's Original Steakhouse

Link

SLC CLASS OF '55's
“NICE DINNER” OF JULY 23, 2009

The evening was quiet and the weather was great. Out in the “boondocks”
(as classmates coming from East Oahu wanted all to believe),
in Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii, we met for a Nice Dinner at Buzz's Original Steakhouse.

There were 20 diners, and they were: George & Kathleen Rego
Joe Ornellas & Stephanie
Mike & Ellie Lyons
Fred & Fran Hackbarth
Cenric & Linda Ho
Louis & Barbara Paresa
Johnson & Elaine Yee
Damien Farias & Nancy
George & Dori Corenevsky
Jim Burns

Wendy Moranha (Bob Moranha's daughter, & our guest)
There was some “carousing” at the bar before all were called in to start the evening. We then commenced to
attack the salad bar. There were many items to select from the salad bar, but the item that got the most “picks”,
was the fresh avocado; not to mention the freshly grilled Garlic Bread. Many of the diners went back to the
salad bar more than once (even more than twice). We settled in for another nice evening.
There was 50's music being played on a CD player provided by Damien. Happy conversation(s) were heard
throughout the room.

We ordered our entree's, including all of the “personal requirements for cooking” (Rare – Med. Rare –
Medium Well - Well Done – and one order for a Top Sirloin Steak to be cooked Really, Really, Really Well
Done). Also, White Rice, or Steak Fries, etc. All the food seemed to come to the tables cooked correctly, and
delivered to the right orderer(s).

Johnson Yee was ever present with his Kodak Brownie, and took many, many pictures of the diners and of
the food. Please go to the link above or below to view.

The evening really centered around just thoughtful and cordial conversations and good will, and enjoying one
another. Before the end of the evening, every female diner had an opportunity to pull a number from a bag, and
then to take from a table which had been previously set up, one gift which matched the number they pulled. The
gifts were “small stuffs” and such, and the women seemed genuinely appreciative.

There were three Desserts ordered – 2 Ice Cream Pies – 1 Cheesecake. The Ice Cream Pie was “humongous”
and caused their orderers to share with others. Also, true to her wonderful being and personality, Barbara Paresa
had made her wonderful & famous Bread Pudding and it was provided to everyone present in individual foam
boxes. We had another wonderful surprise when Wendy Moranha (Bob's daughter) served all of us, individually
cut and packaged large slices of her own freshly baked Banana Bread. Think we had “dessert” to take home?

After some more “talk story” and ordering of additional drinks, the evening ended and everyone left for
home. Those that lived in Leeward Oahu had but a short drive – but those that lived in the “boondocks” of East
Oahu, had a long drive home; but – thanks to all for coming and sharing.
A hui hou! Thanks to Damien for arranging this event.

July 16, 2009 - Meeting at the club house 6:30 PM

MINUTES OF THE CLASSMATE'S
REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING
OF JULY 16, 2009

Damien Farias obtained 10 Zippy's Mini-Pacs for those classmates that RSVP'd. Also, Paresa & Hottendorf brought two pans full of shredded roasted chicken for all to enjoy. Later after the meeting was adjourned, Farias passed around boiled peanuts & Poke for "pupus".

Attendees were: Farias, Corenevsky, Joy, Yee, Lam, Lyons, Sam, Ornellas, B. Freitas, Hackbarth, C. Ho, Rego, Paresa, Perkins, & Hottendorf . (Way to go guys - 15 classmates - real great turnout).

Call to Order: Chairman Farias started the meeting at 6:34 P.M.

Treasurer's Report: Rego reported that there was $760.29 in our "fund", and that there might be another $113.00 added to the fund, courtesy of the golfers, from the Waialae C. C. Golf Event.

Note: the $113.00 amount was confirmed by C. Ho

Old Business: 1) 55th Reunion Anniversary Celebrations

A: Oahu Venue: Farias reported on an e-mailed celebration proposal, for Oahu, provided by
Botelho (not present). The proposal was very broad and included
accommodations/dinners/activities. The proposal was contingent on
several factors, such as "how many classmates would be coming?"; "how
long do we want the Oahu celebration(s) to last?", and, "quoted prices for
rooms and activities might change/fluctuate.

Farias also reported that, his search for Waikiki hotel accommodations
(other than that of Botelho's proposal), resulted in the hotels replying that
"it is too early to provide room rate quotes for May 2010 room requests"!
This matter was tabled until the next meeting (09/17/2009), when more
info should be available.

B: Las Vegas Venue: C. Ho reported that the dates (previously accepted by the classmates)
would be Sept. 26, 27, 28, and 29 of 2010. Classmates are to arrange
their own accommodations and air travel. There will be a one night
"Hospitality Room" (courtesy of Farias), at the Golden Nugget Hotel;
only one "golf event" (arranged by Peralta), a "celebratory dinner" at
a "Nice" restaurant; and possibly other activities (ie., group attendance
at a Las Vegas Show(s) as arranged by other supporting classmates).
More information will be sent out by C. Ho, as things "firm up".

2) Classmate's Well Being
A: Report on Robert Moranha's funeral: Farias reported that Bob's funeral was a
simple. but touching one, and that the classmates present reflected well on us. Farias
delivered the eulogy, and pointed out that he and Hackbarth, Joy, and Paresa were Pall
Bearers. In addition to these classmates, the following were also in attendance: Lyons,
Burns, B. Freitas, G. Young, Perkins, C. Ho, A. Young, & Cruz. Our SLC Class of
'55's Special Bereavement Card was given to the family. A handout made by Bob's family
was passed around for the classmates at the meeting to view.

B: Ailing List: Corenevsky spoke to the current Ailing List (#6 of July 2009), and gave
some insight into our Classmate Creighton (Fuzzy) Richards' condition, and relayed info
as provided by his wife Roberta. Corenevsky further spoke on the general condition(s)
of all of us, and asked all to remember just how fragile our lives are; so “would we please
try to enjoy ourselves more and do things now” instead of procrastinating and then not be
able to “do anything at all”. Corenevsky then addressed the grim knowledge, that 2006
was our worst year (in terms of classmates passing on), with a total of 6 of us passing
away. He reminded all that we are here in the middle of July 2009 and already we have
5 classmates that have “passed on”. Also, info was provided relative to our classmates
Donald Lee, & Michael Cathcart (we were concerned about them), but, at this time, all
seems to be in order.

3) Report on the past Golf event at Waialae, C. C.: C. Ho reported that 18 classmates
played in the tournament at Waialae C. C., on June 26th. After tallying and paying
expenses, the classmates enjoyed a “net profit” of $113.00. Chairman Farias will soon be
inserting, at the class web site (www.SLC55.com), a recap of the event, including names
of participants and winners. Many thanks to Earl Ah Moo, this year's Waialae Host.
Special Thanks to Stanley Osada, for treating all of the participants to lunch and snacks,
after the 9th Hole.

Ho also was part of the assembled classmates at the meeting that commented on and
agreed in the “arrangement” that whomever is in charge of a particular golf event, is/will
be the “Golf Guru” for that particular event, with all final decision making and action
responsibilities. Cenric availed himself to all “future Gurus”, in assisting by sending out
notices to classmates, confirming Tee Times; and preparing cash envelopes for
distribution to “winners”; BUT, ONLY if he (Cenric) would be available.

4) Nice Dinner at Buzz's Steakhouse: Farias reported that as of the meeting date
(including new reservations from classmates at the meeting) there were a total of 21
diners signed up. Farias stated that all classmates should try to assist by getting others to
attend the dinner. WE NEED YOU GUYS - PLEASE ATTEND THE DINNER.

5) 2009 Christmas Party: Paresa told everyone that this year's Christmas Party, would be
held in Niu Valley, at the Lung Fung Chinese Restaurant. The date is set as Wednesday,
December 16th and starts at 5:30 P.M. Tentatively, costs, incl. tax & tip, will be $25.00 a
head, with monies, paid for by check made out to: SLC Class of 55, to be received by the
Christmas Party Chairman N. L. T. November 30th. It will be a 6 course Chinese Dinner,
preceded by a 2 course appetizer set. If we bring alcohol to the party, each person that
“drinks” will be assessed a corkage fee of $1.50. A separate e-mail will be sent out to all,
in the near future; but – reserve the date DECEMBER 16th, and plan to come and enjoy
the season and your classmates/spouses/partners.

New Business:

1) Next Golf Event – August 13th, 2009 @ Navy-Marine: Joy (the “Golf Guru” for this
event), stated the following: First Tee Time is at 9:45 A.M. We have 4 Tee Times @ a
max of 5 golfers per group, and he anticipates between 16 – 20 golfers. Costs: $34.00 for
golfing - - $10.00 for the use of a cart - - $20.00 for the prize fund. After golfing, all
interested parties will go into the golf club restaurant, and food & drink will be handled at
the discretion of those present. Please contact George Joy @373-2206 or Cenric Ho @
216-9855 to make your reservation.

2) Next “Nice/Fine” Dinner: Ornellas reported that he was looking at having our next
dinner, at either the Chart House or at John Dominis Restaurant. He is looking at the
dinner being held in September or October. More info will be sent out as soon as plans
get more solid.

Open Forum: Farias asked “why is it that we always have a special golf event during the month of June (every year), and only at the Waialae Country Club?” “And why does it always have to
involve a whole bunch of people with a whole bunch of “sub-dealings” and processes?”
“And, why not at some other Golf Course?” Spirited discussion followed, and other golf
courses, like: Leileihua – Maui - - Koolau were mentioned. No positive action or preference(s) was/were derived from the discussions, and the matter is tabled for inclusion into the agenda of a future meeting.

Adjournment: Farias adjourned the meeting at 7:21 P.M.

APRIL 25, 2009 - NICE/FINE DINNER @ THE HANOHANO ROOM OF THE SHERATON WAIKIKI HOTEL

The day started off on a rather “sour note”. Around 3:00 P.M., Joe Ornellas was informed by the Hanohano Room management, that “Kalakaua Ave. and several feeder streets to Kalakaua, would be closed to traffic”.“There is a SPAM JAM street celebration, and getting to the Sheraton Hotel would be difficult”.

After a bunch of “panic phone calling” to all of the classmates that were scheduled to attend the dinner; the suspense started to build. Who would be late? Who would just give up and say such things as “screw this – we're just goin back home!”, and “Farick dis traffic, we're outta here!”

As it turned out, there were no significant traffic problems, and everyone arrived at the Hanohano Room within a ½ hour of the scheduled “start time”. All was well.

These fine people were in attendance: Damien Farias & Nancy

Joseph Ornellas & Stephanie

Bernard & Deborah Freitas

Johnson & Elaine Yee

Louis & Barbara Paresa

Frederick & Fran Hackbarth

Claude Hottendorf & Kyong

Norman & Marie Cruz

George & Dori Corenevsky

The views were fantastic on both sides of the building, and our group was finally seated on the Ewa side of the room. We faced western Oahu, and the sunset was fantastic and brilliant. Again, as in other venues, many peered and searched for the “Green Flash” - but, alas again – we no wen see um. Bummers!

True to his wonderful nature and personality, Johnson Yee was busy a great part of the evening, taking pictures of all that were present, and then pictures of the food, to include titling/naming of each of the food presentations. Please click on the the following internet link to view Johnson's wonderful photo show.

 SLC55 Dinner April2009

We ate, we discussed the different foods, their preparations and commented on how good or bad we thought the food was. Talking story was the main event of the evening. We were gifted with Bernard Freitas singing a solo song to his beloved wife Deborah; because it was their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Again, without fail, Joe Ornellas scripted another wonderful evening. Thanks Joe – from all of us!

And then – we paid our tabs and left.

 Until the next time!

MARCH 19, 2009 - Class Meeting Minutes

MINUTES OF THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED

CLASSMATE MEETING OF MARCH 19, 2009

Available food for the evening was provided by: Mrs. Barbara (Louie's wife) Paresa and by Joseph Ornellas.

Present for the meeting were: Damien Farias, George Corenevsky, George Rego, George Joy, Francis Wong, Rodney Botelho, Claude Hottendorf, Louis Paresa, Michael Lyons, Bernard Freitas, Joseph Ornellas, Allen Perkins.

Chairman Farias called the meeting to order at 6:31 P.M.

Treasurer's Report: George Rego reported that money in our operating fund was now at $821.95 He also reported on a St. Louis publication, printed during our class' 30th graduation anniversary, which reported that the Class of 1955 was the third highest contributor (a sum of $76,000.00) to the building fund of the Mamiya Theater. The publication will be posted on-line at the Class web site (under the Archives tab) in the near future.

Old Business:

Class gift to St. Louis school: Chairman Farias reported that the Class of 1955 had formally gifted the St. Louis School “new building fund with a donation of $80,000.00. An acknowledgement letter was received by the Chairman, expressing gratitude for the donation and relating to the promise to the installation of an appropriate plaque or memorial tablet reflecting on the generosity of the Class of 1955 classmates.

55th Graduation Anniversary Celebrations – Oahu Venue: Chairman Farias and Corenevsky reported on the results of the classmate survey sent out via e-mails & regular mailings. Of 50 responses received, 40 were in favor of Proposal A (just a dinner and an appropriate program); 7 were in favor of Proposal B (Renting rooms in Waikiki and having an appropriate dinner and program, together with supporting extra curricular activities); 2 responded that they were “not able to attend”; and 1 vote related to being undecided..

Michael Lyons then reported that during his check in to additional Waikiki bookings (at the Outrigger Reef Hotel), that those actions already taken by Rodney Botelho, were in fact very similar to what had been reported by Botelho; therefore Lyons acquiesced to the findings of Botelho so as not to duplicate efforts”.

Rodney Botelho passed out several pamphlets which were informative of room type/pricing and availability (2009 price quotes as 2010 quotes not yet available from the Hotel) and surrounding eateries and activity vendors. Discussion ensued and Botelho provided info that related to now going out to the classmates with additional information about the Celebration proposal(s). It was then decided that we would send out info packages to the 50 classmates that responded to the survey. Botelho and Corenevsky to cooperate in this effort.

55th Graduation anniversary Celebrations – Las Vegas Venue: Corenevsky read to the gathering the basic elements of Cenric Ho's tentative proposal: Sunday, September 26, 2010 arrival - check into hotel – cocktails or Dinner shows * * * Monday, September 27, 2010 Hospitality Room @ Golden Nugget Casino/Hotel – Possible Gaming contests by Teams of Players & Guests * * * Tuesday, September 28, 2010 Golfing in the A.M. - Primary Dinner Celebration * * * Wednesday, September 29, 2010 - Departure. NOTE: Suggestions/Comments are welcomed (Cenric Ho hawaiiproho@hotmail.com or 1766 Maiha Place, Pearl City, HI 96782.

2009 Christmas Party – Christmas Party Chairman Louis Paresa, reported that he had looked into six different Restaurants which met his criteria. After some discussion, it was settled on having our Christmas Party at the Mandalay Chinese Restaurant, on Alakea St. (downtown Honolulu) on Wednesday, December 16th, 2009. More information will be distributed as things flesh out”. BTW, if you plan on spending around $50.00 per person for the evening, you would most probably be in the ball park. Paresa would like all to know that, he was not very happy with all of the verbal abuse he received from an abundance of the classmates present, which was related to his lack of having a planning calendar which showed the date in December. His calendar, from his very professional “daily planner portfolio only went from August to August (that's August 1 to August 31 of this year), so he had to have help to determine what day of the week that December 16th fell on. That provoked instant comments relative to his age and medical condition. Sorry Louie.

New Business:

Corenevsky provided information as to the development of the Class of 1955's Ball Cap. Samples of embroidered designs were shown. The final design was selected and the completed Ball Caps should be available in the first week of April 2009. Costs will be much less than the cost of buying a cap from the SLAA (with their specific design), and then having Class of 1955 embroidered on the back of the cap. That cost is currently around $28.00 (not including shipping to classmates who cannot pick up their cap(s) in person).

Corenevsky reported on our Ailing List Visiting Team visits. Corenevsky, Farias, Paresa, Cenric Ho visited Edwin Maruyama at his home in Hawaii Kai. Ed is such a remarkable guy and ensures us all that he is indeed “toughing it out, but that our continued prayers and concern for him are such comforting things to him (and to his wife Amelia).

Corenevsky and Farias visited the Kailua home of George Mauliola, to talk to his wife Mary. She is bedridden and George is her primary care giver. Although Mary is bedridden, she is still active and aggressively fights against her ailment. We had a most wonderful conversation with both Mary & George. Keep Mary and George in our prayers.

Corenevsky reported that he and Damien Farias, George Joy,. Bernard Freitas, Louis Paresa, Frederick Hackbarth, & Donald Rapoza attended funeral services for Gary Phillips on March 19th. The classmates presented the family with a bereavement card.

Upcoming Golf Events: Corenevsky related that Bob Moranha, although actively processing the golf event happening at the Royal Kunia Golf Club on April 16, 2009; was having some difficulty with health problems and requests that all interested golfers for this event CONTACT him NOW!!!. Total fees for the event will be $80.00 (Golf = $45.00; Tournament = $20.00; and Awards/Pupus = $15.00).

Corenevsky also reported (for Cenric Ho), that Earl AhMoo would be the sponsor for the Waialae Country Club Golf Tournament on Friday, June 26, 2009. A handout was passed out to all interested parties at the meeting. Cost for Classmates (non-Waialae C. C. members) will be $126.00. Any classmate that is not participating as a “golfer” for this event, and wishes to join the guys after golfing”, are invited to do so at a cost of $32.00.

Next Nice Dinner: Joseph Ornellas reported that out “next Nice Dinner”, would be at the Hanohano Room of the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, on Saturday evening, April 25th, 2009. Particulars will be sent out to all as soon as possible. Approximate cost for the dinner will be $65.00 per person.

Open to Floor Forum: There were no other comments from the floor.

Date of Next Meeting:
Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 6:30 P.M., at the SLAA Club House.

Adjournment: Chairman
Farias ended the meeting at
8:10 P.M.

Present for the meeting were:  Francis Wong, Rodney Botelho, Allen Perkins, Cenric Ho, George Corenevsky, Johnson Yee, Michael Lyons, Damien Farias, Louis Paresa, George Rego, & Albert Lam (a small turnout of only 11 classmates).  Where were you guys?????

Call to Order:   Chairman Farias called the meeting to order at 6:39 P.M.

Treasurer's Report:   George Rego reported that the Classmate “fund” had $538.00 and was still to be increased by $300.00 (deposit from the Christmas Party).  There was also going to be an additional debit from the “fund” for a mix-up in the meeting's food order, but that the debit would not be more than $75.00.

Old Business: 55th Reunion (Oahu Celebration, May 2010) – Chairman Farias requested that Rodney Botelho present new proposals for a Waikiki Venue.  Botelho provided handouts and proceeded to go through his proposal.  After much discussion by classmates, Michael Lyons agreed to provide some additional information relative to the Waikiki Venue.  This information is to be provided to the Chair, before/by the next scheduled meeting in March.

This matter was then tabled for discussion at the next scheduled meeting of March 19, 2009, with the caveat that “if the classmates cannot come to an acceptable decision on the Celebration, then the Chairman and the Core Group would make whatever decisions need to be made”!  Meanwhile, there will be some informational & interest survey letters sent out to the Classmates.

55th Reunion (Las Vegas Celebration, September 2010) – Cenric Ho said that the planning for this venue (Las Vegas Celebration) was progressing.  Ho then received comments from the floor regarding such things as a “Hospitality Room”, shows and other things which the classmates & their spouse/partner might want to participate in.  Ho said that it was a bit too early to make finite/definite commitments for the Las Vegas Venue Celebration(s).  More info will be presented at the next classmate meeting (March 19, 2009), if available and appropriate.

2008 Christmas Party Final Report – Michael Lyons Reported that the Christmas Party was GREAT and that he had received many good comments about the place, the food and the view. Lyons related that his trusty assistant Johnson Yee was very supportive & helpful and was truly an asset to the Classmates. Then, Johnson Yee presented his report of the Christmas Party and told the gathering that he had brought his own DVD of the events at the Christmas Party, but alas, there was no DVD Player or Screen to show it.  He also had prepared for Mike Lyons, a beautiful laminated two- sided montage of pictures of Mike performing as Santa Claus.  Yee presented the picture to Lyons on behalf of all of the Classmates.  It was very nice indeed.

Class gift to Saint Louis School -Chairman Farias spoke to the actuality of our class gift; which was in fact a sum of $69,880.00 (and not “close to one hundred thousand”). Farias commented that there were (up to the time of this meeting) 48 Classmates that donated a total of $58,730.00, and 23 Non-Classmates (perhaps family of Classmates & from Verizon Telephone Co., as “matching” donations) that donated a total of $11,150.00.  There was some discussion on the floor, and then a motion was made to give the money (in total) to the Saint Louis School Building Fund, with a requirement that the School make and install some sort of recognition plaque or memorial tablet to honor the Class of 1955.  The motion was quickly seconded, voted on, and unanimously passed.  Chairman Farias relayed to the group that the Classmates would make the total donation to the School to be $70,000.00.  Chairman Farias said that the donation to the School would happen very shortly.

New Business: Upcoming Golf EventsChairman Farias said that all planned Classmate Golfing Events  were already at the Class website (www.slc55.com), not withstanding special golf happenings.   Allen Perkins reported that he would be making additional efforts to get lodging dates at the Odd Fellows Camp Site (for golfing at Kahuku & Turtle Bay) and would be working with Robert Moranha. Also, Albert Lam was “in charge” of a “special golf event” happening on Feb, 6, 2009, at the Moanalua Golf Course (two nine hole plays).

Next “Nice Dinner” - This agenda item was briefly addressed, but soon was deferred to the now ailing and not present Chairperson Joseph Ornellas.

2009 Christmas Party -Chairman Farias opened discussion into the desire or non-desire of having a Christmas Party for this year (2009).  Floor comments showed that we should definitely have a Christmas Party this year.  Some discussion was centered around having the Christmas Party to include family(ies); and then there was a proposal to save money and have the party at the SLAA Clubhouse.  Louis Paresa volunteered to be the Christmas Party Chairman, and he was accepted by the Classmates and the Chair. More info to be provided when things start to “jell”.

Open to Floor Forum: Corenevsky reported that he could get a “specialized“ SLC '55 embroidered design for use with baseball caps, and/or patches with the same specialized design for use on baseball caps and on other wearing apparel; for a very reasonable price. After some discussion, it was decided that Corenevsky would have an “embroidered sample” for viewing by the Classmates.  The “sample” will be available for viewing at the next Classmate meeting.

Corenevsky also reported that Lillie, the loving spouse of our Classmate, William

A. Lee, had passed away this month.  Lillie was on our “Ailing List”.  The Classmates will send our “Bereavement Card” to William and the family.

Date of Next Scheduled Meeting: Chairman Farias announced that the next regularly scheduled Classmate meeting, would be on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 @ 6:30 P.M. At the SLAA Clubhouse.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.M.

DECEMBER 7, 2008 - CHRISTMAS PARTY SLIDESHOW (Click to view)

REPORT ON THE SLC CLASS OF '55s

CHRISTMAS PARTY OF DECEMBER 7th, 2008

Let it be known to all of the people, in the farthest regions of the land; that the Christmas Party of December 7th, 2008 was a full blown happy time kine party”. Held at the Waikiki Elk's Club, near the base of Diamond Head and right smack on the beach; the environment was perfect. There was a truly beautiful sunset which was watched by many of the classmates and their wives/partners (and, auwe, still no body wen see da green flash). A lone Christmas tree was nicely lighted and decorated, and provided the warm and simple touch of it being Christmas time. There was “piped-in” music and songs of Christmas wafted around the room.

For all of you that don't already know, the Christmas Party Chairman was Mickey Lyons and he was ably assisted by Johnson Yee. The arrangements and layout of the tables was thoughtful and not overly crowded. Mickey and Johnson did a fantastic job getting this (our 3rd annual Christmas Party) party to be our “best” so far.

The Partygoers were:
Michael & Ellie Lyons
Johnson & Elaine Yee

Damien Farias & Nancy
Joseph Ornellas & Stephanie

Frederick & Fran Hackbarth
Gordon & Betty Sam

George & Dori Corenevsky
Lionel & Elizabeth Camara

Norman & Marie Cruz
Claude Hottendorf & Kyong

George & Kathleen Rego
Francis & Barbara Wong

Harold & Gladys Chun
Stanley & Doris Osada

Jim & Emme Burns
Louis & Barbara Paresa

Allen & Betty Ann Perkins
Donald & Marjorie Young

George & Maggie Joy
Stanley & Susan Victor (in from Michigan)

The evening started off pretty well with parking being “Valet Parking” only, so as not to cause any physical and/or mental stress for some of the older guys.

It all started at 5:30 P.M., upstairs in a special room with egress to a beautiful patio for unobstructed views of Waikiki and the western side of Oahu. Cocktails were “No-Host” and the bar setup was practical. There were some comments about the “price of the drinks”, but these were usually from those of us that haven't gone out on-the-town” in several years – and were surprised (nah – shocked) at the booze prices. But, the night went on splendidly. Just in case one wanted to, they could visit the “main entertainment area” downstairs, and watch Melveen Leed perform for Elk's Club Members & Guests.

There were several “gifts”, hand prepared with love and warmth by some of our ladies. The very wonderful gifts (for each of the ladies present) were the products of: Kathleen Rego who made 20 Notebooks that were embedded with various kinds of Holiday crafts, and there were no two individual notebooks alike; and Stephanie (of the Ornellas duo) made 20 decorated Christmas light bulbs that were decorated to look like a “face”, but were actually reindeer, with antlers and lace; and then there were the 20 Santa Claus (Santa was with glasses and was making the sign to “be quiet”) Christmas (velvet & fur) bags that Barbara Wong filled with small bottles of “Sunny-D”. Thank you so very much ladies, for these gifts and for sharing with the Classmates.

At 6:20 P.M., the MC called on Betty Ann Perkins to say grace and provide for the blessing. What a magnificent job she did. The prayer was touching and very appropriate for the occasion. She even “talked to God” in Hawaiian. It was “pure magic“. Mahalo Betty Ann.

Then it was time to eat. The buffet line started with Dinner Rolls, then a Chinese Chicken Salad, a Caesar Salad, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Chow Mein Noodles, Oriental Fried Rice, Spring Rolls, Ginger Chicken, Roasted Salmon, & Carved Prime Rib. Desert provided by the Elk's Club, was a moist Haupia Cake, & Home Made Brownies. Barbara Paresa, as she normally does, brought two huge pans of her famous Bread Pudding. Coffee & tea was available. After everyone went through the line once, it then became “all you can eat until it runs out”.

After dinner, the MC called Damien Farias to the podium, When Damien got to the podium, the MC announced that Damien was being presented with a memento from the Classmates. Then, Damien related to the gathering, that he had told Corenevsky, “that if ever I (Farias) was given a gift from the Classmates, that I (Farias) would fire Corenevsky and then he (Farias) would quit”. That being said, Corenevsky then quickly made a motion on the floor, nominating Damien Farias to the vacant post of “Chairman”, got a “second” from another classmate, closed out the nominations, and then took a vote of the classmates present. Damien was overwhelmingly voted in as the new/next/continuing Chairman. The MC then read the inscription on the memento that was being given to Damien. For all of his leadership and for being the one most responsible at keeping us together” , the MC said; the MC then read the inscription: To: The Chairman Damien Farias Always Leading Always Achieving From: The Classmates of SLC '55 December 7, 2008. The memento was actually a miniature antique car, all polished in gold and chrome, with a movable tonneau cover, and included a tiny clock (which kept falling out of its socket; until Damien used some “Portuguese Glue” - some saliva from his tongue - to keep the silly thing from falling out again). The car looked like it was from around the 1920s or there abouts. It seemed appropriate as Damien collects real antique cars.

And then, wouldn't you know, we were privileged to find Santa Claus in our midst. In he came to the singing of “Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus”. Santa mingled with the partygoers and ostensibly told some of us about how BAD we were during the past year. Whoaa, shame yah! Then each and every couple at the party had their picture(s) taken with Santa (through the professionalism of – you guessed it: our one and only photographer - Johnson Yee). That was a very nice thing to program into the evening. One more thing, Santa was really Mike Lyons, but no one could tell. Yah - right!

Johnson Yee presented George Corenevsky with a gift “for being a funny guy, and for all the things you do for us”, said Johnson. The gift was from the Classmates, but Corenevsky knew that it really came from Santa Claus. He (Corenevsky) was very “touched” by the kind gesture.

Emme Burns (nee: Emme Tomimbang) took a turn at the podium and started off with a joke to lighten up everyone after dinner and picture taking. She then told all of us that she was putting out another Emme's Xmas Island Moments and that it would be on three separate nights in December. She said that it would have the very well appreciated “O Holy Night” Christmas Carol sung by Willie K, and that the program would be nice for us to watch. If you want further info, please go on-line to www.emmeinc.com or contact Emme or her staff at 808-947-6677.

Each and every lady present had been provided with a colorful Christmas Song Booklet, to enable them and their spouses/partners to be prepared to sing some Christmas songs. Each table was “warned” that when the “program” started, that each table would be called upon for the ladies of that table to sing their chosen song. It started off slowly, but then things got into high gear and some of the ladies were very anxious to sing, even to the point of “leap-frogging” another table that wasn't quite as ready to sing. The ladies all did well and “showed” the men that it was all right to “sing” - after all, its Christmas time.

There was joking and merriment and laughter all around the room. Guests seemed comfortable and “in the holiday spirit” as they “talked story” with each other. And then, it happened. Several classmates and their ladies were selected and lined up to sing “The Twelve Days of Christmas (the Hawaiian version).

This was the “line-up”:

Numbah 1 day was Donald Young
Numbah 2 day was Gordon Sam
Numbah 3 day was Fred Hackbarth
Numbah 4 day was Claude Hottendorf
Numbah 5 day was Stanley Victor
Numbah 6 day was Norman Cruz
Numbah 7 day was Louis Paresa
Numbah 8 day was Harold Chun
Numbah 9 day was Fran Hackbarth
Numbah 10 day was Maggie Joy
Numbah 11 day was Dori Corenevsky
Numbah 12 day was George Corenevsky

It started off by Donald not having the best voice of the group and he wasn't sure of just how to phrase the words (ONE MYNAH BIRD IN ONE PAPAYA TREE) of the song. After some coaching by the MC and at least four times correcting and stopping Donald (and everyone laughing hilariously), we progressed on. All was well, until we got to Stanley Victor. He needed coaching on being more emphatic with his words (FIVE BIG FAT PIG), but he caught on quickly. And then we “got our rhythm” and went through the whole song with much fun and giggling and laughter. All the participants were “good sports”, but Donald was exceptionally sportsman like.

Heart warming and moving was the closing song the “St. Louis Alma Mater”. Every classmate stood and then most everyone else stood up and participated in singing. Kind of “chicken skin” time even with some minor “off-key” voices. Generous applause followed.

The MC then asked God to protect all on our way(s) home, and asked everyone to be safe & drive safely.

Goodbye”, “nice party”, “great time”, “so much fun”, “hope we can do this again next year”, “Aloha”, “Merry Christmas”, “Happy Holidays” were some of the parting comments made as we left. Warm & lasting memories were made that night.

Our time on earth is short and getting shorter. Think about coming to one of our Nice Dinners or committing to next year's Christmas Party. Although we “miss those of you that weren't at the party”, give us all the opportunity to “not miss you” by just “being there”.

Special thanks to Michael Lyons & Johnson Yee for all of their time and effort(s).

God bless, and............................be safe!

The MC was George Corenevsky

NOVEMBER 20, 2008 - MINUTES OF THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED

CLASSMATE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 20, 2008

Damien Farias provided the “eats” for the meeting. He brought two large platters of Fried Noodles, two large platters of Man-Doo & Fried Squid, a large container of Spicy Fried Chicken (provided by Nancy of the
Damien/Nancy duo), and all of the accompanying condiments.

Present for the meeting were: Damien Farias, George Corenevsky, Cenric Ho, Francis Young, Jim Kaufmann, Michael Lyons, Joe Ornellas, Allen Perkins, Albert Lam, George Joy, Norman Cruz, Gordon Sam, Claude Hottendorf, & Louis Paresa. (Fourteen classmates).

Meeting was called to order at: 6:41 P.M.

Treasurer's Report:

Chairman Farias (reporting for George Rego, & with input from Cenric Ho), related that at the time of the meeting, we had $2,187.29 in our “operating fund”, but this number included monies for the upcoming Christmas Party. After subtracting for the Christmas Party, we would/should have about $507.29 and we will still be due a return of our Christmas Party Deposit of $300.00 to give us $807.29 in our fund/kitty”. These numbers may change pending late Christmas Party commitments.

55th Reunion Report:

Chairman Farias requested input for the Oahu Venue and noted that Rodney Botelho was not able to attend. Farias then relayed some costs for a Maui Venue – not including travel costs – it would be $218.00 for a room at the Marriott Hotel. Mickey Lyons then reported on a Waikiki Venue and said that he was only able to come up with costs “if we would celebrate now”, and that the costs for a year 2010 Venue would become available in March of 2009. During discussions, such things as Golf Packages and Parking were brought up.

Then, Cenric Ho relayed that the Las Vegas portion of our 55th Reunion Celebration might probably need an additional day to satisfactorily complete the festivities. This would mean that we would add an additional day to the already “tentatively accepted” time frame of September 27, 28, 29 of 2010 to be a four day event.

Subsequently, it was motioned/discussed/voted on/passed, that we would not accomplish the Oahu portion of our celebrations, at Turtle Bay. The classmates present voiced unanimous support for having our Oahu Venue being held somewhere in Waikiki.

This item is still being explored by various classmates, and nothing “concrete” (except for not celebrating at Turtle Bay) has been formulated or accepted. It will be the one of the Prime Agenda Items for our next regularly scheduled classmate meeting of January 15, 2009.

Christmas Party Report:

Christmas Party Chairman Mike Lyons revealed that at the present time, we have 40 persons (20 Classmates & 20 spouses/partners) committed to attend the Christmas Party. The “final count” to be given to the Elks Club is due between 7 & 10 days prior to the 12/07/2008 date; and therefore, attendee numbers may change. Everything is “on track” and we should have a really great time.

Class Gift to St. Louis School:

Chairman Farias related that he and Earl Ah Moo had been in various meetings/discussion on the matter. Questions relative to “levels of recognition/appreciation” were asked of the School's leadership and favorable responses have been received. However, floor discussions during our classmate meeting, again showed serious concern relative to the “survivability” of the School; and questions were numerous about specifically directed donations really getting to St. Louis School, or might the donations be rerouted elsewhere.

This item has been taken “under advisement” and is Tabled.

Past Golf Events:

Chairman Farias said that all past golfing event(s) “write-ups” were duly posted at the Classmate Website (www.slc55.com).

Ailing List & Team Visit:

George Corenevsky reported that the Ailing List would not change in its' next issue. He and Damien Farias visited with James Marciel, and were advised that James' wife Sandra was very ill and undergoing many various physical treatments and procedures. Although James' wife is ill, he did not want her to be placed on the Ailing List just yet. Never-the-less, we might do well to say a prayer or two for her. Gordon Sam questioned on whether or not another classmate should be included in the Ailing List, but Corenevsky said that inclusion on the Ailing List was only after he had received permission to list – and that neither the classmate in question, nor his spouse, had given permission to list.

Cenric Ho, Louis Paresa & George Corenevsky, made plans with the wife (Carol) of Gary Phillips, and met with her and Gary at the McDonald's in Enchanted Lakes. Gary looked “fit” but because of his ailment, had some difficulty in recognizing his classmates. Carol said that Gary actually was quite cognizant of his classmates visit and showed several signs of being pleased and happy.

Two pictures of Gary, his wife, and the visiting classmates, were passed around for everyone to see.

Funeral Services for Bruce Mann's Wife:

Corenevsky reported that he had attended the funeral services for the wife (Audrey) of classmate Bruce Mann. He (Corenevsky) delivered the Class of 1955's Bereavement Card at the services. A return Thank You Card was later received from Bruce, thanking the whole Class for their concern and prayers. Cards & Funeral Service pamphlets were passed amongst the classmates for info.

Upcoming Golf Events:

Chairman Farias, reporting for “Golf Guru” Bob Moranha, said that the next Golf Event was scheduled for December 11th, and that Bob would be contacting all concerned about this event.

Also, Allan Perkins suggested that he, through his affiliation with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, might be able to “accommodate (house)” classmate golfers at private cottages of the Odd Fellows in Laie. Golfing could be at Kahuku Golf Course or Turtle Bay Resort. It was requested that Allan provide more info and present same at the “after golfing get-together” at Damien Farias' home on December 11th.

Operating Fund Accountability:

Chairman Farias addressed an issue on “how we receive donations to our “kitty”, and being able to inform everyone about just who(m) is “fattening up” our Kitty (operating fund). After some discussion, it was determined that a method would be developed to list “donation categories”. Like: the golfers donated XXX; or that a particular classmate had donated a monetary gift; and such. No further discussion on this item is expected and item is closed.

Next Nice Dinner:

Joe Ornellas said that he was trying to schedule our Next Nice Dinner, to be at either Haleiwa Joe's (in Kaneohe) or at Aaron's' (Top of the Ala Moana Hotel). After some floor discussion, it was determined that the next dinner would be at Haleiwa Joe's. This would be happening sometime in January 2009. Joe will provide info as soon as it becomes available.

Food at Regularly Scheduled Classmate Meetings:

Chairman Farias spoke to the matter of providing “eats” at our regularly scheduled meetings. He wondered if the classmates would prefer not having anything, except perhaps pu-pus, at our meetings. Having our classmates (or our spouses/partners) prepare and deliver food for our meetings might be a hassle. Also, if no classmate volunteers to bring food, then food would have to be ordered and picked up by someone for consumption at the meeting(s); another possible hassle. Farias asked if we should just not provide food, and ask the classmates to “eat before you come”, until such time as the SLAA awards a new Dining Room Contract to a concessionaire. Joe Ornellas said that we could still order food from the old concessionaire Kanak Attack, and if it was necessary, he would “do the ordering”. The Chairman opted to do the “Joe Ornellas thing”, until further notice.

Open to Floor Forum:

No other items were presented from the floor/classmates.

Adjournment:

The meeting was adjourned at 8:01 P.M.

FYI: All classmates are invited to James Kaufmann's Birthday Party, to be held at Maryknoll High School on February 8, 2009. If interested, contact Jim at (808) 228-6195

MINUTES OF THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED
CLASSMATE MEETING OF SEPT. 18TH, 2008

Present for the meeting were: Damien Farias, George Corenevsky, Cenric Ho, Bob Moranha, Albert Lam, Mike Lyons, Claude Hottendorf, Joe Ornellas, Norman Cruz, Louis Paresa, George Joy, George Rego, Allan Perkins, Jim Kaufmann, Lionel Camara, Bernard Freitas, Johnson Yee, Earl Ah Moo, Rodney Botelho. LOOK AT THIS – 19 classmates at the meeting. Great turnout!

A food line was set up for all to participate in, consisting of home-made Meatloaf w/gravy, fresh home-made biscuits, and Bread Pudding (provided by Mrs. Barbara Paresa & delivered by Louie); and Potato wedges, a mixed green Caesar Salad, and condiments (provided by Damien Farias).

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Farias, at 6:40 P.M.

The Chairman, Damien Farias, presented a plaque to Cenric Ho, acknowledging his past and continuing efforts in helping the classmates “stay together & focused”.

George Rego gave the Treasurer's Report. He stated that the class “operating fund” was at $656.00 and would increase an additional $300.00 (for a total of $956.00) when we get back our deposit from the Elk's Club (deposit is for our December 7, 2008 Christmas Party). It was noted that most of the increases in our “operating fund” has been due to the generosity of those classmates that are Golfers (they donate a good portion of their “winnings” to the operating fund). Thanks to all!

Joseph Ornellas gave a brief summation of our last Nice Dinner (at Natsunoya Tea House). All agreed that the Dinner was great.

Michael Lyons gave a presentation on the upcoming Christmas Party, and he and Johnson Yee provided handouts to all. These are the particulars: Christmas Party will be on Sunday, December 7th 2008, at the Waikiki Elk's Club, starting at 5:30 P.M., costs will be $42.00 per person (tax & tip incl), parking will entail a $5.00 per car fee, No-Host cocktails (pay as you go), commitments and reservations N.L.T. Nov. 7th, 2008. There will be a separate E-mail and Regular Mail issuance going out to all Classmates with more specifics. It was also voted on during the meeting, that Christmas Grab Bag gifts would not be required.

Chairman Farias opened discussions relating to our previously tabled item: Class gift to St. Louis School. Earl Ah Moo provided info relative to the School having a “new chairperson with fresh ideas” that would be helpful to us in deciding how to actually release our “almost $100K pot”, for appropriate School gifting. Much discussion was heard relating to our past efforts to determine our “appropriate gifting to the School”. The matter was then returned to “under advisement” status by the Chair. Earl Ah Moo will be providing additional information to Chairman Farias. Item is tabled.

George Corenevsky discussed the “Ailing List” and requested (and received) permission to include Classmate's spouses in the listing. Also, there will be a “visit team” developed to “call on” our Ailing Classmates and/or spouses. Please note: no classmate visits will be accomplished without first contacting and getting approval to visit, from the Classmate's spouse/family/caregiver. Louis Paresa & Cenric Ho volunteered for this effort.

Rodney Botelho provided handouts to all, and then gave a presentation regarding his Turtle Bay Proposal which would be “Part A” of the Class' 55th Graduation Reunion, in 2010. Discussions involved golfing venues, Hotel room rates, scheduled dinners, and much more. There were other suggestions/questions (for going somewhere other than Turtle Bay), and it evolved into Mike Lyons being tasked to come up with a “Waikiki venue Proposal”, and Damien Farias being tasked to come up with a “Maui venue Proposal”. All new proposals are to be submitted to Chairman Farias before the next regularly scheduled classmate meeting of November 20th,

2008. During discussions, the classmates present voted on and passed/accepted that the time frame of May 7th/8th/9th 2010 (a Friday/Saturday/Sunday) would be the “official” dates for the Oahu Celebration Portion of the 55th reunion. There will be e-mails and regular USPS mailings whenever more specific information is available.

Part “B” (the Las Vegas portion of the 55th reunion) was discussed by Cenric Ho. He suggested that we plan to do our “Vegas thing” during the approximate same time frame as we had done for the 2007 reunion in Las Vegas. He proposed that we plan to “Go Vegas” during the Sep. 27th, 28th & 29th, 2010 time period. The dates were “tentatively accepted” by Chairman Farias. Item tabled.

Robert Moranha spoke extensively on the Classmates' next scheduled Golfing events (October 16th & 24th). Bob further espoused on some of the drawbacks he encounters when classmates do not honor their golfing commitments. Much discussion ensued and after a ton of good natured information giving/receiving, everyone commended Bob's leadership & zeal in running the Class' Golfing Events. Wow! This topic was the absolute highlight of the meeting, and discussions were “vigorous”.

Joe Ornellas provided information relative to the next “Nice Dinner”. He stated that it would probably be in October (next month) and would be at Aaron's (Top of the Ala Moana Hotel). Specifics will be sent out as soon as available.

There was no further new business or floor comments.

Chairman Farias announced that the next regularly scheduled Classmate Meeting, would be on Thursday, November 20th, 2008, at the S.L.A.A. Clubhouse, at 6:30 P.M.

The meeting was adjourned by the Chairman, at 8:20 P.M.

August 23, 2008

S.L.C. CLASS OF '55's
3RD NICE DINNER

NATSUNOYA TEA HOUSE – AUGUST 23, 2008

Damn! Joe Ornellas has done it again. He scripted and directed another really great “Nice Dinner”. Shaka!

Here we were, thirty one of us, in an old cottage in the back of the Natsunoya Tea House (was originally called SHINCHORO back in 1921), cheerfully mingling and talking and having a nice time. The setting was “rustic” and the room was a little small, but – we had our own air conditioner and our very own-inside-the-room-benjo (toilet). Natsunoya had just finished installing new carpeting in the room and we all had to observe Japanese culture by “taking off our shoes/slippers”. Was kinda funny walking around in bare feet or with your socks on (sometimes the socks and the new carpeting managed to “get together”.

There were 17 classmates and 14 “significant others” at this nostalgic dinner. Why, we even had a classmate attend that most of us hadn't seen in over 50 years; that was Melvin Ching. Thanks Mel – we hope you enjoyed yourself and that you might find time in your busy life & schedule, to join us in other events.

Upon arrival, guests (the male classmates) were given a beautiful handmade St. Louis Crusader writing tablet and matching pen. The tablet was very well done and included the “fighting Crusader logo”, the wording “Once a Crusader – Always a Crusader”, and included cutouts of sporting icons, which were all beautifully laminated on the tablet's front cover. The maker and giver of these tablets was/is Joe Ornellas' main squeeze – Stephanie. She is just fantastic – as always! Also, the arriving female guests were presented with surprise bagged gifts which were along the lines of “nick knacks”. These were provided to our ladies courtesy of the classmates.

The attendees were:

Joseph Ornellas & Stephanie Damien Farias & Nancy Claude Hottendorf & Kyong
Louis & Barbara Paresa Johnson & Elaine Yee George & Kathleen Rego
Alvin & Blanche Kort Francis & Barbara Wong Stanley & Doris Osada
Norman & Marie Cruz Michael & Ellie Lyons George & Dori Corenevsky
Frederick & Fran Hackbarth Lionel & Liz Camara Melvin Ching
Robert Moranha Bernard Freitas

The saying of grace was done by Kathleen Rego. It was beautiful, and you could sense that it was straight from the warmest part of her heart. Then, Kahu (in his mind) Bernard Freitas, sang a stirring Hawaiian Pule (that too is a saying of grace). Johnson Yee was (as usual) busy taking pictures (what a guy!). What a wonderful way to start the evening.

Corenevsky made a short announcement about the food at the buffet table, and specifically about the Crab Legs. The announcement was - “The buffet is not an “all you can eat” arrangement. So, when you get to the Crab Legs – no take 10 – bum bye somebody no goin get Crab. An, I (Corenevsky) want to know if any of you no like Crab so you can give um to me (Corenevsky)”. Needless to say, we no wen run out of Crab Legs.

The entire menu for the evening, included: 4 types of Sushi – Oriental Chicken Salad - Pork Tonkatsu – Baked Chicken – Teriyaki Steak – Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura – Snow Crab Legs - Miso Soup -
Noodles - Steamed Fish Natsunoya Style - Hot Tea . Fantastic and the food was really tasty!

After much”talking story”, laughing, joking, reminiscing and generally enjoying each other, the evening came to a beautiful conclusion. Guests left amid cheery Alohas & Goodbyes; and now we wait for the NEXT Nice Dinner. Stay Tuned!!!

July 17, 2008 - MINUTES OF THE CLASSMATE'S
REGULARLY SCHEDULED BI-MONTHLY
MEETING, OF JULY 17, 2008 @ S.L.A.A. CLUBHOUSE

Before the start of the meeting, Louie Paresa provided food for the gathering. He (via his lovely wife Barbara) brought 2 kinds of Spaghetti, several loaves of Garlic Bread, and a mixed green veggie salad (w/accompanying condiments). Damien Farias brought a whole bunch of Poke and a large bag of Boiled Peanuts; and Bernard Freitas (his wife Deborah did the cooking/baking) brought a wonderful Rum Cake (2 slices an u drunk). Thanks guys (and gals)!

Present for the meeting were: Damien Farias, George Corenevsky, Cenric Ho, Mike Lyons, Louie Paresa, Claude Hottendorf, Johnson Yee, Francis Wong, Joe Ornellas, Jim Kaufman,
Bernard Freitas, Fred Hackbarth, Rodney Botelho, Allen Perkins, and Sonny Lam.

The meeting was called to order at 6:36 P.M.

Cenric Ho provided handouts and gave a verbal Treasurer's Report. Counting the $300.00 refundable deposit we have at the Waikiki Elk's Club (for our Christmas Party), we have $663.00 in our Treasury/Kitty. It was mentioned that the Treasury/Kitty has been added to by the application of “left-over” funds at our class meetings, and by golfers donations of their prize monies. Also, it was noted that Cenric Ho donated $100.00 to the effort.

Chairman Farias started dialog about a previously “taken under advisement” item relative to “funding of and appropriate usage of funds from our Treasury/Kitty”. After much discussion as to methods of assessing classmates, the reality of “actual supporters”, income generating possibilities, and “approved usage of the funds”; it was determined that we would continue to fund the Treasury/Kitty as we are currently doing, and if/when we would need additional funding, we would make “practical assessments” from those classmates that want to help.

Corenevsky reported that of the 95 e-mails and 87 regular mailings sent out to classmates to assess interest in attending the 55th Graduation Anniversary celebrations (in 2010 – one celebration in Hawaii (Oahu) and one celebration in Las Vegas), that he had gotten back a total of 26 responses. Rodney Botelho gave a verbal presentation to the members, about his proposal to celebrate the Oahu portion of the 55th Anniversary, to be held at the Turtle Bay Resort, to include golfing events, non-golfing events, luncheons, & celebratory dinners. There was much discussion about Rodney's proposal, and in the end, Rodney promised to provide additional information to the class members at the next regularly scheduled bi-monthly meeting of September 18th, 2008. Jim Kaufmann readily volunteered to assist Rodney in this endeavor.

Joe Ornellas reported that he had two venues ready for our next Nice Dinner. One was Aaron's (at the Ala Moana Hotel) and one was Natsunoya Tea House (in Kam Heights). The members present voted for Natsunoya Tea House. Therefore, the next Nice Dinner will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 6 P.M. @ Natsunoya Tea House.

Approx cost, including Tax & Tip &“Things”should be around $35.00 per person. Info will be sent out shortly asking for Reservation commitments and responses by N.L.T. August 13th. If interested, contact Joe at *82-395-6114, or Corenevsky at 455-7955, or Damien at 357-1082.

Chairman Farias addressed the issue of “golf as a class”. After discussion(s) from the members, it was determined that this action would not be endorsed by the classmates. Subject is closed.

Mike Lyons talked briefly about the Christmas Party. He reiterated that it would be at the Waikiki Elks Lodge, on Saturday December 6th at 6 P.M. Mike addressed the menu (to include a “carve as you like” Prime Rib Station), and promised to inform everyone of developments. There will be an effort by Mike & Johnson Yee to send out fliers to canvass classmates about attendance & guest number inputs for the Christmas Party. Costs will also be addressed.

Chairman Farias opened up discussion into another “under advisement” item: the Class gift to the School (St. Louis School). Much interest was shown by the classmates, and open forum discussions showed a growing feeling of discontent about the owners and operators of the School, and their “sense of or lack of priority(ies)”. The end of discussions revealed that the matter should continue to be “under advisement”, with additional research into the matter to be undertaken by the classmates. Subject will continue to be unresolved and “under advisement”.

Chairman Farias provided information about upcoming classmate Golf Outings. August's golf event will be on Thursday, August 14th, at the Royal Kunia Golf Club; with the additional benefit of attending a “pupu party” at Damien's home in Aiea immediately following completion of all golfing. He also stated that the December golf event, would probably be held at the same Golf Course on Friday, December 19th. Please check the website for info, or watch for e-mails from our “Golf Guru” Bob Moranha, or e-mail Bob @ rlmoranha@yahoo.com or call Damien Farias @357-1082.

Corenevsky reported that classmates Damien Farias, Cenric Ho, George Joy, Fred Hackbarth, and himself (Corenevsky), attended funeral services, on Sunday, July 13th for our departed classmate Charles Haleamau. The Class of 1955's special “Bereavement” card (developed by Damien Farias), was provided to the family. A four page pamphlet about Charles was passed out at the meeting for all classmates to see.

The meeting was very spirited and the participation by ALL members present, was invigorating and “healthy”.

Not an item for the meeting, but never-the-less important, Johnson Yee reported that two classmates were “ailing” and perhaps should be added to the “Ailing List” e-mail. The classmates are: Robert Lum & Bernard Wong.
Corenevsky will look into this.

Chairman Farias stated the the next regularly scheduled bi-monthly classmate meeting would be on Thursday, September 18th at the S.L.A.A. Clubhouse, at 6:30 P.M.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 P.M.

See you all at our next Golf outing in August. Check our web site (slc55.com) for all the retails.

MAY 15, 2008 -Classmate Regularly Scheduled General Meeting

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Damien Farias. At 6:33 P.M.
Classmates present were: Damien Farias, Louis Paresa, George Corenevsky, Claude Hottendorf
George Rego, Johnson Yee, Michael Lyons, Fred Hackbarth, Norman Cruz, Stanley Osada, George Joy, Gordon Sam, Earl Ah Moo, Allen Perkins, Jim Kaufmann andBernard Freitas

Louie Paresa, our gourmet chef, provided the food for the evening. He brought Roast Pork, Shoyu Chicken, and Noodles (including the wonderful Distilled Red Vinegar). Fred Hackbarth brought some chips.

Agenda:
Upcoming 55th Anniversary Celebration. Chairman Farias submitted that we are only 1-1/2 years away from our 55th anniversary and that he was initiating the pre-planning process. After some discussion about where and when the Celebration would be, it was determined that Corenevsky would send out e-mails and printed postcards, to all classmates, asking them to provide input back to the class, on their preferences relative to the celebration. Classmates will be informed that the main celebration would be on Oahu, in 2010, and that an additional supplementing celebration would be held in Las Vegas in that same year. This item to be an agenda item for the next meeting (July 17th, 2008)

Nice Dinners. Discussion of the first two Nice Dinners was positive and classmates are looking forward to the next one. Corenevsky, on behalf of Joe Ornellas, announced that the next Nice Dinner would be at Shokudo Japanese Restaurant, at Kapiolani Blvd. & Kaheka St., at a time and date that is yet to be determined in August of this year (2008). All will be notified as plans become more finite.

Golf at Waialae Country Club & other general Golfing preparations. Chairman Farias, presented several emails relative to the upcoming golfing event at Waialae Country Club next month (June). Discussion on the floor was spirited and after several recommendations and “trial balloons” were floated, the following directions were established: Robert (Bob) Moranha is our only Golf Chairman; and he will be totally in charge of classmate golfing events, including those that are scheduled for Waialae Country Club. For those golfing events that are scheduled for W.C.C., Jim Burns, Stanley Osada, Earl Ah Moo & Wallace Ching (individually or as a group) would be responsible for the “leg work” to sponsor/set up the event at W.C.C., but Bob Moranha would still be “in charge” of the actual program/pairings/prizes/money collections, etc., etc. Bob Moranha may ask for
assistance or help when & if he deems necessary. If you have any questions, please contact Chairman Damien Farias.

Golf Invite, October 2008, “As a Class”. It was determined that this invitation was from an outside entity and would be a function which essentially ends up helping the school (St. Louis High School). Earl Ah Moo volunteered to obtain additional info for presentation to the classmates at the next meeting.

2008 Christmas Party. The chairman requested that a committee be established to handle this year's Christmas Party. After appropriate Robert's Rules of Order were followed, Mike Lyons was voted in as the Christmas Party Chairman, with assistance from Jim Kaufmann. Chairman Lyons was given (by default) the authority to select “others” to assist him in the planning and accomplishment of the Christmas Party. For everyone's info, the Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 6 th , at 5:00 P.M . at the Waikiki Elks Club (we are sponsored by Mike Lyons). Corenevsky apologizes to all, in that he was certain that the Christmas Party was on Friday, December 5th at 6:00 P.M. Corenevsky is having too many Senior moments lately.

Class assistance/gift for the school (St. Louis High School). The chairman reported that “we got problems, right here in River City”. There are many things that the school needs, but it has been noted that most priorities of the Marianist Society (they are the School Administrators), are skewed towards Chaminade University & not St. Louis High School. After much intense discussion(s) by SEVERAL of the classmates, the matter was tabled for future action.

Class and Classmates Las Vegas visits. Earl Ah Moo reported that he has a “friend” at Las Vegas's Boulder Station, that would be of great assistance to us. Discounts and Comps would be substantial, and may not be a function of “how much play one had at the Casino”. The matter was taken under advisement by the Chair.

The meeting was ended at 7:20 P.M..

There was a large picture/photo of a 7th grade class at St. Louis (from way back when) that was being passed along to all present. It was fun to “name” those in the picture. Many “guys” were misidentified. Many comments were made, like “who da guy”?, and “not – that's not so-and-so”. There are 45 classmates in the picture, and not all of them were named. No one could really determine if the picture was 7A or B or C or D or what. It was fun to watch all the classmates go over the pictures.

MAY 10, 2008 - SLC '55's 2nd NICE DINNER AT JOHN DOMINIS RESTAURANT

It was a truly “wonderful” evening, with tons of laughter and sharing and just “shooting the breeze”
with fellow classmates and their spouses/partners. There were 29 attendees in all, including 15
classmates; a very, very nice turnout indeed. The “guys” looked OK, but the women were “splendid”
in their chosen evening wear.

The weather was gorgeous and the setting within the restaurant allowed for spectacular views of the
ocean and Waikiki all the way through Diamond Head. Evening lights scattered around Ala Moana and Waikiki, provided for scenes “from a postcard” and were the subject of many spirited “tellings” of “I remember when” stories.

Joe Ornellas again weaved his masterful and magical abilities to provide the class with an
outstanding evening. Joe's partner Stephanie presented every female attending the dinner, with a hand made and beautifully decorated set of magnets. The class treasury made it possible to provide the ladies with a “faux” Capidomonte ceramic pink rose basket and decorative gift box (for Mother's
Day???).

Here is a list of the “partygoers”:

Joe Ornellas & Stephanie
Damien Farias and Nancy
Jim Burns
George & Dori Corenevsky
Mike & Ellie Lyons
George & Kathleen Rego
Norman & Marie Cruz
Bernard & Deborah Freitas
Fred & Fran Hackbarth
Alvin & Blanche Kort
Claude Hottendorf & Kyong
Louie & Barbara Paresa
Allen & Betty Perkins
Johnson & Elaine Yee
Lionel & Elizabeth Camara

The food was “excellent” and some of the items ordered were: Oysters Rockefeller, Escargot,
Lobster, Steamed Onaga, Lamb Chops, 1 pound Steaks, Seafood Bouillabaisse; and Desserts included
Crème Brulee and Chocolate Mousse Cake. Diets & medical problems “be damned”!

For those of you that couldn't make it this time, perhaps you might consider coming to the next one.
It would be great sharing “old times” with you, and meeting your “main squeezes”. Keep an eye and
ear opened for the announcement of the next “Nice Dinner”.

March 20, 2008 - Class Meeting @ Clubhouse 6:30 PM

The meeting was called to order at 6:39 P. M. by the chairman, Damien Farias.

Present were: Michael Lyons, George Corenevsky, George Joy, Johnson Yee, Albert Lam, Claude Hottendorf, Allen Perkins, Joseph Ornellas, Louis Paresa and Damien Farias.

The first order of business was the telling of a joke which was well received and put everyone in a jovial mood.

Chairman Farias reported (for the Treasurer) that our SLC '55 “kitty” was at $505.00. There was some discussion as to just how our “kitty” got funded, and that perhaps we should “assess” classmates a small amount of money to ensure that we had enough funds to “operate”; and then the matter was “taken under advisement” by the chairman.

Chairman Farias said that he hoped the Waialae Country Club golfing event was on track, and that he would be contacting Jim Burns (not present at the meeting) for an update.

Allen Perkins reported that the April Golfing event at Hawaii Kai appeared to have 14 to 16 players attending. He said that he had some additional e-mail contacts to be made, but anticipated no problems.

Joseph Ornellas reported that the next “Nice Dinner”, originally planned for the Grand Opening of the restaurant 808's Grand Opening on Kapahulu Ave., is now set to be at John Dominis' restaurant in Kakaako. At this time, the selected evening will be Saturday, May 10th. Joe stated that more specific details would be sent out as soon as possible.

George Corenevsky gave a report on the Committee to search for suitable venues for our next Christmas Party (December 2008). A handout was provided, and George went through the report. There were no specific recommendations, but there were three lower cost venues which seemed might be appropriate, and three other venues which were at a slightly higher cost but would provide for less actual work from the classmates. After much “heated” discussion on cost basis and ability of classmates to afford higher end venues, the venues were voted on, and the selection became the Waikiki Elk's Club (sponsored by Michael Lyons or Johnson Yee), on Saturday evening, December 6th (2008). Details will be sent to all as they become available. But - - - reserve that date!!!

Chairman Farias related classmate Earl AhMoo's request that we consider a golfing event that wants to have four man teams that represent most of the SLC/SLH graduated class years. There was no vote taken and the matter is open for general classmate involvement.

Chairman Farias asked the classmates present if there was any strong desire to make the August 2008 Golf event happen at a particular golf club. After discussion(s), the matter was tabled and is under advisement (of the Chairman).

The meeting ended with Chairman Farias telling another joke and again putting everyone in a happy mood. The meeting was adjourned at 7:36 P. M.

Heavy Pupus were provided (ordered by Joseph Ornellas) for the classmates to enjoy. There was Roast Pork with gravy, Poke, Rice - - Chinese noodles (together with a complimenting Chinese Red Vinegar) provided by Louis Paresa, and Crispy Gau Gee provided by George Corenevsky.

February 16, 2008 - Our First “Nice Dinner” took place Saturday Night!

Link to photos by Johnson Yee

Joseph Ornellas planned the evening, and it turned out to be a very classy, comfortable way for the classmates and their “significant others” to get together, enjoy each others' company, and have a wonderful dinner. The private room setting at Sarento's Restaurant, at the Top Of The Ilikai, was very nice indeed.

Many of us talked about the Glass Elevator and how it struggled and moaned and creaked on its' ascent to the top of the Ilikai. Sort of reminded ourselves about our own, brought on by age, moaning and creaking and shaking. Was kinda spooky.

The view was amazing, and although we all watched diligently for the occurrence of the “green flash” (looking out to the northwest towards Kauai), God had already obscured the horizon with a whole bunch of clouds – so, we no coud see da flash. Ah, well!!

As the guests arrived, Joe's lady Stephanie handed out to the other ladies, a personally stylized Valentine's gift which consisted of a plastic notepad holder with heart shaped note pad, a beautiful phrase about friendship(s), a pen, other nice decorations of hearts, all carefully wrapped in a clear cellophane gift bag and tied in a bow with raffia. It was a very nice gift for the ladies, and it was very well received. Mahalos to Stephanie for her thoughtfulness and love in sharing her friendship with us. Also, all us “classmates” provided the ladies with an individual rose bouquet (one red rose & one white rose), tied in a red bow with attached mini craft (fabric) red & white roses.

Attendees included: Joe Ornellas and Stephanie, Damien Farias and Nancy, George Corenevsky & Dori, George Rego and Kathleen, Fred Hackbarth and Fran, Norman Cruz and Marie, Claude Hottendorf and Kyong, Johnson Yee and Elaine, Jim Burns and Emme, Allen Perkins and Betty.

Johnson Yee was doing his regular “thing” in taking pictures of all in attendance, and further , he took pictures of many of the food entree's as they were placed before each guest. For his supportive help during all of our gatherings (taking pictures and providing photo clips for the class web site), Johnson was given a wooden Hawaiian Platter, engraved with a sentiment thanking him for his part in keeping us “together”. The platter was presented by Damien Farias on behalf of the classmates.

For those of you that couldn't make it, we missed you. Joe announced that the next “Nice Dinner” was planned for the opening of Chef Jean-Marie Josselin's (of the 808 Restaurant at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas) new restaurant in Kapahulu. However, the opening of the restaurant appears to now be delayed; so, Joe stated that we would most probably be going to John Dominis' Restaurant in Kakaako. We will all be notified when things “jell up”.

There was considerable laughter during the more

than 3-1/2 hours of the evening, and when we left, we were “full” and pleased about the evening. Some of us proceeded home (way past our bed time), and some others started their “bonus time” and went dancing.

And then, the evening was over.

January 17, 2008 - Class Meeting @ Clubhouse 6:30 PM

Classmates present: Damien Farias, George Joy, George Rego, Mike Lyons, Bernard Freitas, Joe Ornellas, Fred Hackbarth, Gerritt Young, George Corenevsky, Calvin Won, Cenric Ho, Johnson Yee, Allen Perkins, Ed Inatsuka, Claude Hottendorf, Stan Osada, Louis Paresa, James Burns (18 classmates)
Meeting started at 6:35 P.M.
Agenda: Treasurer's Report: Cenric Ho reported that we had $505.00 in our SLC'55 account.

Christmas Party Report: Bernard Freitas reported (handout provided), that the end cost of the
Christmas Party held at his home, was $1,020.00. There was a deficit of
$00.82 which Bernard graciously “absorbed”. Many comments were
made about what a great party it was.

Planning for 2008 Christmas Party: Chairman Farias stated that we should plan now for this year's
Christmas Party. A tentative date of Friday, December 19th was
discussed. Several “venues” were discussed, such as: The
Willows Restaurant, The Hale Koa Hotel, Victoria Inn in
Kaimuki. A committee was established, consisting of:
Corenevsky/Perkins/Joy/Ho/Lyons, and tasked with
looking into different venues and pricing. A report to
chairman Farias, was expected to be provided before the next
regularly scheduled meeting (March 20, 2008).

“Nice Dinner” event: Joe Ornellas reported that he had received commitments from 9 classmates,
for the February 16th dinner at Sarento's. Much discussion was made relating
to the cost and pricing of the meals and methods of payment; and the
perceived “fairness/unfairness” of averaging out the total cost of dinners and
for the “bar tab”. Agreement/acceptance was achieved and the dinner should
prove to be a wonderful event.

Golf – February 28th: Chairman Farias, proxied for Bob Moranha and made comments about the
next Golf Outing at the Navy-Marine golf course. Persons interested should
contact Bob Moranha at (808) 454-1159 or by e-mail at rlmoranha@yahoo.com
.

Waialae Country Club Golf Event: Jim Burns asked that golfer commitments for this event
scheduled for Friday June 20th, be made NLT the March 20th
regular classmate meeting. If interested, you can contact Jim
at: (808) 262-9443 or by e-mail at jsb808@hawaii.rr.com

Outer Island Golf Outings: Chairman Farias polled the attendees about having a golf outing on
one of the other islands. He suggested that if an outer island event was
what classmates wanted, that perhaps we should make it as the venue
of the scheduled golf outing of August 21st. After brief discussion(s), it
was determined that no outer island golf outings will be planned at
this time.

Las Vegas Get Togethers: Chairman Farias asked, that since many classmates have expressed a
desire to “go to Las Vegas more often”, would there be interest in
scheduling something for Vegas? After some discussion, it was
determined that if there are classmates that might want to go to Las
Vegas in addition to any planned & scheduled class events, that those
classmates should do so as individuals/groups and on their own.

SLC'55 Standardized Financial Transactions: Chairman Farias addressed the attendees about a
“glitch” in the way we are/have been dealing with
monies for scheduled classmate events. We have
been writing checks to individuals, sending cash to
individuals, making checks payable to different
individuals or event chairpersons. This has led to
some confusion on occasion, as to “where is the
money”. For clarity and standardization, it was
suggested that hence forward, all financial
transactions by and for the class/classmates, should
be made to SLC class of 1955. A motion to “so
move” was made and seconded and after discussions
and clarifications, was passed.

Next Meeting: Chairman Farias stated that the next regularly scheduled classmate meeting was on
Thursday, March 20th, 2008 at the SLAA Clubhouse.

NOT DISCUSSED/MENTIONED, BUT “FOR THE RECORD” --- a sizeable donation (five figures), to St. Louis School, on behalf of the Class of 1955.

Non agenda item(s): Johnson Yee presented a “token of appreciation” to Bernard Freitas (and also to Bernard's wife Deborah) for all of their hard work, effort and love in planning and executing the Christmas Party. Johnson had made personalized luggage tags (looked really great) for Bernard & Deborah. One slight “auwe” - the luggage tag for Bernard's wife DEBORAH was imprinted as BARBARA. So, unfazed, Johnson proclaimed that the BARBARA luggage tag was now being presented to Louis Paresa's wife (Barbara) for her providing of the wonderful and delicious Bread Pudding at the party. A new luggage tag would be made for DEBORAH. Thanks Johnson – you da man!

SLC CLASS OF '55
2ND ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY
12/14/2007
AT THE HOME OF BERNARD AND DEBORAH FREITAS

It was a dark and windy night at the Freitas estate in Kailua. Undaunted by the weather, and full of
Christmas feelings and spirit, the second annual SLC Class of '55's Christmas Party went on as
planned.

A total of 40 persons (22 classmates and 18 spouses/partners) + members of Bernard's family,
braved the elements and gathered for a warm (????), cordial and fun evening. It rained a little, the
power went out for a brief period, the hostess got blessed by God (accumulated rain on the tent got
jostled and fell on Deborah Freitas), but she took it in stride and felt that it was “a sign” (a sign that sheneeded to get a change of clothing).

Damien Farias and Bob Moranha “manned the bar” and took good care of all that imbibed. They
were joined by Stan Osada who appeared to act as a sheriff or shotgun of sorts, up near the bar area.
Additionally, Jim Burns patrolled the bar area the whole evening perhaps acting as judicial counsel forthe Freitas' alcohol operation (kept things legal). Later, Damien's “main squeeze” Nancy joined the“bar area gatherers” and provided beauty to the group.

Johnson Yee and his lovely wife Elaine (just that day arrived home in Hawaii from a Japan trip)
were ensconced at a table having fun all the while Johnson was doing his usual thing – taking pictures of all that were in attendance.

Guests that needed to get their passports/visas stamped, included Darryol & Norine DeRego in from
Oregon, and Stanley & Phyllis Yasumoto from California.
There was merriment, singing (albeit only by the host Bernard Freitas); pupus were devoured by the
seemingly shy guests and many comments were made about how “everything was sooooo delicious”.

Bernard “said grace” (a pule all in Hawaiian) and then we wen go eat (the main stuffs). So much
food, so much dessert; brok da mout and da waistline too! Not to mention all the Aloha and friendship.

There was a “grab bag” scenario, everyone got a gift. Some exchanged theirs for someone else's.
Jim Burns shook up many of the female guests when he went around letting everyone “feel” his
particular grab bag gift, which, although completely wrapped in Christmas wrapping, was a vibrating
something or other, and made many of the women jump back and wonder what the hell was in the
package. Several moments of discussion ensued and references were made to the thing being a “sexual stimulator”. But then, at our ages, even if it was - - - what then?

At the end of the evening, goodbyes were made, everyone loaded up their sleighs, and away into the
night they left. For those of you that couldn't be there, you were missed and thought of. Perhaps next year – ya think?

Here is a list of all of the attendees:

* * * * Thank you so very much for all that you did to make the
evening a wonderful time. And also, mahalos for letting us use your beautiful yard for the festive
occasion. You were all so caring and thoughtful and worked continuously throughout the evening to
make the party the great success that it was. God bless you all for your efforts and love.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year
and God bless us all!!!

Chairman Farias informed all, that the year 2008 Schedule of meetings/Events was posted on the class web-site.

George Corenevsky started discussions on what we would want as Protocol/Precedence in the bereavement of deceased classmates. After much discussion, a motion was made, amended and voted on (passed): If services to be held on Oahu, one or more classmates should attend the services, express sympathy/condolences on behalf of the rest of the classmates, and present the deceased classmates family with a special SLC '55 Sympathy Card (to be developed by Damien Farias); card to be provided with no monetary gift.

If services to be held on another island or on the mainland, a classmate, if available, should attend the service, and express condolences and provide sympathy card (as above). If no classmate is available, then Sympathy/Condolence Card to be sent by mail.

Chairman Farias iterated that the next scheduled meeting was scheduled for Thursday, Jan 17, 2008.

Chairman Farias opened discussions on how to "do something:" for classmates that was not specifically related to golf or golfing events. After a round of discussion, it was determined that there would be a trial effort to have "nice dinners" for classmates/wives/partners, to happen every four months or so, and that Joe Ornellas would be the coordinator and facilitator of the first event. Info will be provided via web-site and email.

Guest Speaker: Bob Marciel gave a short presentation on his company's new quest to get Hawaii gamblers to go to the Indian Casinos in southern California utilizing the services of his tour company.

FEBRUARY 15, 2007

Navy Marine Golf Course

We broke a record! Eighteen of our Classmates came out to play golf on a bright sunny Thursday morning! The old attendance record was 16 for the 50th Reunion Golf Tournament in May 2005.

In addition to the "regular golfing guys," two new First Timers were: Cef AGOR and Stan YASUMOTO!

The winning Scramble Foursome of Earl Ah Moo, Louie Paresa, Barney Freitas and Cef Agor shot a remarkable score of 7 under Par, a Class record! Formerly, it was 5 under Par.

After golf, we celebrated together and had a late lunch on the second floor patio of the Sam Snead restaurant.

Special thanks to Bob Moranha, the Tournament Chairman, who did a terrific job by obtaining the tee times, assigning our Classmates to each of the five competition groups, custom-making the Closest to the Pin markers and awarding the day's prizes.

JANUARY 18, 2007

Twelve Classmates met at the Clubhouse to discuss the planned Get Together in LAS VEGAS this fall.

Cenric and George C reported their findings on various travel arrangements, the estimated cost for "a Vacations Hawaii Five Day/Four Night airfare - hotel package" and proposed activities, evening shows and hospitality areas.

The Classmates unanimously agreed on:

1. The Dates to be in LAS VEGAS - - Monday
10/1 through Thursday 10/4

2. Until more activities are selected . . . the
Classmates will:

A. Golf - two days . . . Monday 10/1 and
Wednesday 10/3 . . . . (Louie and Allen, co-
chairs)
B. Group Dinner . . . Tuesday 10/2 at the
Main Street Station buffet - - -7:00 pm.

C. Assemble in the California Hotel ---
upstairs near the Bar and Sports Book
for Hospitality purposes, and

3. To send a letter/survey to all Classmates
informing them of the LAS VEGAS Get
Together and obtain their travel commitments
and suggestions for other activities
including evening shows, tours, etc.

A few Classmates stated they would make their own air travel and hotel room arrangements. Others said they may consider using their accumulated Airline Miles for "free transportation" and separately purchasing a Five Day/ Four Night Hotel Room "Hawaiian Deal with Meals" directly from the California Hotel aka The Boyd Group.

By popular vote, Damien will be the General Chairman, Louie and Allen - Golf Co-Chairs, Cenric - Treasurer, and George C - Overall Activities Chairman with assistance from yet-to-be-designated Sub Chairs.

At the end of the meeting, new ideas for Classmate activities in the Year 2008 and beyond
included . . . an Around-the Islands (7 day) cruise and a River Boat Cruise through four European countries.
